If you are thinking about having a baby, it’s a good idea to begin seeing a doctor. You can start as early as 12 months prior to conceiving. This is a good time to learn about the childbirth process and how you can best prepare yourself for pregnancy. Your doctor can help you to understand what is necessary for conception to allow you and your partner to get pregnant quickly.
During the preconception visit, your doctor will gather a detail medical history of both him and her. Be prepared to answer questions about medical conditions on both sides of the family including diabetes, birth defects, mental issues, high blood pressure, Cystic Fibrosis, sexually transmitted diseases and any other disease that is hereditary. They may ask about heart disease, epilepsy, arthritis, high cholesterol, depression, plus more. They will also ask life style questions such as habitual drinking or smoking and drug use. While these question may seem personal, they are helpful in helping you to conceive have a healthy baby.

During this appointment and all future appointments you have times with a very knowledge about doctor, take advantage of it! If you are reading this, you are doing your homework and will be prepared for your visit. Be ready to ask your doctor questions. Learn all you can about getting pregnant, staying pregnant, and giving birth to a healthy baby.

What else can you do?
It may seem kind of early, and may be it is, but you can begin creating a birth plan. A birth plan is used to plan out all of the details that you’ll need to figure out at some point. These include where you want to have the baby, will it a natural birth?, will you take pain medication during birth, who will be with you during delivery, etc. There are a lot of things to think about. This doesn’t include any lifestyle changes such as work schedule, dietary changes, stopping smoking and drinking, etc.
Your life is about to change so treat yourself to some fun and laughter and get yourself ready for you new life. Here are a few suggestions that you ready for your new baby. They aren’t very expensive and are fun to look at as you wait for your baby to arrive.
